In the twilight of night, I head up the Crimson Trail in Logan Canyon, Utah. The tools of my trade are upon my back with my fellow photographers. We navigate the switch back trails while looking down at the increasingly deeper cliffs below, watching our footing as the trail narrows from erosion at the cliffs edge, stumbling over rocks and tree roots jutting out to claim another hiker, yet knowing at 1:00 a.m. we'll only have a headlight to light our path back down.
Our destination is a flat rock that seems to cantilever out over the canyon deep to the highway below. A steady stream of cars snake through on there winding way. We creep to the cliffs edge in the dark, set up our tripods and cameras, then wait for the milky way to emerge. At almost midnight she arches over the valley displaying her heavenly path creating a…..Starry Starry Night.
